Venue: Forecourt of Sasakawa Centre

Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This year’s World Food Day is on the theme “Our Actions, Our Future: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment and a Better Life.”

All are cordially invited.

BACKGROUND

The programme is subsequent to the launch of Worlds Famers Markets Coalition during the UN pre-summit on Food Systems, which was held in Rome, Italy, from 25th to 27th July, 2021.

The World Farmers’ Market Coalition will be an instrument for spreading the phenomenon of farmers markets in the world with particular interest to developing countries, accompanying governments towards the issuance of forward-looking regulations and local farmers' associations in the development of procedures and good practices to be replicated in the establishment of networks of global Farmers Market.

The participation of School of Agriculture, UCC, at launch offered the platform for us to contribute to the preparations for the inception of the World Farmers’ Market Coalition project, discuss the project expected outcome and outputs, and draft work plan for implementation.

The outcome of this is that Ghana has been selected as the first African country to pilot the implementation of Farmers Market. This is as a result of School of Agriculture, UCC's active participation and convincing expositions during the summit. The success stories during the implementation in Ghana will be extended to other parts of Africa and the world as a whole.
